Creating Mothers’ Day Botanical Landscape

First Printing session of the season! The grasses suddenly tasseled on Mother's Day, hence the name. Working on pastel infused cotton muslin, I made mirror images. (One piece was the bottom, the other was the top "blotter.")

The finished mirror image pieces are 12" x 13."

Creating Mothers' Day - 3

Cotton muslin pigmented with chalk pastel with the first set of background prints. Inky plants are laid on the right side (bottom), then the blotter (top) piece is laid on top to make the mirror image prints.

Additional prints were added. This photo shows my studio table and equipment: I only use what you see. A paint brush is used to apply ink to the grasses. Printing is done by hand - No printing press.

Larger grasses have been inked on both sides and laid on the right panel. The left panel will close over the right (like a book) and the top piece serves as a blotter as well as a mirror print.

I protected the bottom part of the muslin by covering the root with paper.

The mirror images are done. You can see some of the plants above that have been used.
