Ekphrastic Poems
Sower Gallery commissioned two poems to
be crafted about work in my recent exhibit.
Poet Susan Kunity penned "River"
as an ekphrastic poem of my piece Calm Waters.
River
It wasn’t the first time
She would dream of a river
Lightly touched by tree tips
Sometimes gentle sometimes rapid
Expansive or just a trickle
This river was hard to find
You had to portage to it
It was full of rocks called
“Widow makers”
Places so low you can stand up
The best part of it
Leads to a quiet lake
Where you can lay your paddle down
And close your eyes

Poet Gail Lipe wrote "A Sojourn in Piece"
as an ekphrastic poem of my piece Yarrow River.
